Obituary
William Christ “Bill” Sigel, 79, of Port Matilda, passed
away Friday, May 31, 2024, at Hilltop Nursing and Rehab. The son of the late
William Amos and Delilah (McMonigal) Sigel, Bill was born at his grandmother’s
house in the Flat Rock area of Port Matilda on May 14, 1945, while his dad was
serving in the US Navy. Growing up in Stormstown, he learned to fish, hunt and
help with the family farm. He attended one year of school at the one room
school directly across from his home. He went on to graduate from State College
High School, class of 1963. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America.
Bill served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967, stationed at Fork Polk, LA. He
worked as a printing pressman at Commercial Printing in State College for 36
years and later owned a home improvement business.
Bill married Linda Mattern on June 21, 1969. They were
parents to two daughters: Jennifer Lynne (Joseph Wenzl), grandson, Christopher
Devon Bertrand all of Marana, AZ and Kristen Meredith (William Peterman),
grandchildren, Nathaniel William and Elizabeth Ruth Peterman of Centre Hall,
PA. Bill later married Bonnie Lynn Stevenson. He had stepchildren, Kimberly
Williams and Matthew Stevenson. He also had step-grandchildren, Travis Cushing,
Nicholas and Brandon Williams and Emily and Ashley Stevenson and step-great-grandchildren,
Gracelynn, Kinsley and Maci Jane Williams. Also surviving are siblings, Mary Jo
Burega of PA Furnace, Marlin “Jake” and wife, Gloria Dawn of Port Matilda and
Darlene Jean and husband, Ronald Hassinger of Julian. Also surviving are many
nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Bill was a member of the Litil-Der-Buk hunting camp and a
50-year member of the Port Matilda American Legion Post and the Pine Grove
Mills Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Bill will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He
was always ready to help anyone who needed a helping hand, to help with a
broken faucet or fix almost anything.
