William S. Porter

Obituary

William S. Porter, 79, of Collinsville, IL. passed away peacefully in his home in the early hours of November 5, 2022 in the presence of his family. 

He was born on June 26, 1943 to parents Roland and Catherine (nee Furfaro) Porter, alongside his three siblings. He married Carol Cummins in Glen Carbon, IL. on August 5, 1972, a marriage that produced two children and lasted 50 years. 

William graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and went on to have many careers in his lifetime. Most notably, he was a loan officer for Lindell Trust in St. Louis and a member of the janitorial staff at Florist Mutual Insurance of Edwardsville, IL. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Caseyville, IL. and played baseball for the Collinsville American Legion. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan who enjoyed bowling, watching wrestling and boxing matches, and spending time with his friends and family.

Left to carry on his memory is his wife, Carol, of Collinsville; his two children, Mary Shipley and William Porter, both of Collinsville; his grandchildren Eric (Kira) Shipley Jr., of Washington state and Lucas Shipley, of Collinsville; siblings R. Terry (Janet) Porter, Timothy (Melba) Porter, and Trudy Porter, all of Collinsville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and many dear friends. 

A visitation will be held at Herr Funeral Home in Collinsville on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 5 pm - 7 pm with a funeral service following directly afterward. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in William’s name may be made directly to the Porter family.
