Venita J. Combs, 81, Remembered for Her Loving Heart and Generous Spirit
Venita J. Combs, a beloved member of the Indianapolis community, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was 81 years old.
Born on September 8, 1942, to the late Richard and Lulu Jane Short, Venita was known for her unwavering commitment to her loved ones. Throughout her life, she offered a sanctuary of support, compassion, and wise guidance to those who had fallen on hard times, earning the admiration and gratitude of many.
Venita's passions included Cardinal birds, Christmas, snow globes, and fine glass. She loved flowers, gambling, gaming apps, and watching the family’s beloved dog, Bleu, sunbathe. Venita's generous spirit and zest for life were evident in her engagement with her family and friends, whom she cherished deeply.
Venita is survived by her adopted son, Steve Pendley; two grandchildren, Kimberly Keough and Hayward D. George (Christina); six great-grandchildren, Kyra, Kaiden, Haylinn, Brett, Zander, and Desiree; as well as a large extended family and countless friends whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, her soulmate and husband, Hayward Combs (2008), and her beautiful and much-loved daughter, Lora Jane George (2017).
Venita's legacy will endure through the countless lives she enriched, her unwavering devotion to her loved ones especially her Cocoas, and the beauty she created through her generosity. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
