Thomas Joseph Lucas, Sr.

Obituary

Thomas Joseph Lucas, Sr. passed away on February 1, 2023 in Orlando, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Elizabeth Lucas (née Ruffner), his brothers James, Lawrence, Daniel, and William, his step-son Scott, and two grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Steven, David, Philip and Mary, his children Thomas Jr., John, Elena, Richard, Christopher, Joseph and William, his step-son Todd, and 19 grandchildren.  

Thomas was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 21, 1937. He graduated from Penn Hills High School in 1955, and then served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1961. He was the owner and manager of Warehouse Groceries in Scottdale, Pennsylvania from 1980 to 2006, retiring to Florida in 2014. Thomas was an active member of St. Stephen Orthodox Church in Longwood, Florida, as well as the local Elks Club, Moose Club, and Eagles Club. In addition to his regular charitable work, he was an avid golfer and fisherman. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.  

Services will be held on Monday, February 20 at Christ the Saviour Orthodox Cathedral, located at 16601 NW 77th Court in Miami Lakes, Florida. The viewing will begin at 11 AM, followed by the funeral at 12 Noon. Interment will take place at 2 PM at Vista Memorial Gardens, located at 14200 NW 57th Avenue in Miami Lakes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the Saviour Cathedral to be distributed to his favorite charities.
