Obituary

Mrs. Theresa Catherine Shannon, 96 years young, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, October 20, 2024. Theresa was born on September 14, 1928 in Newark, New Jersey. She was the beloved daughter of the late George Oakleaf and Florence (Doerrzaph) Lubben.
Theresa had an exceptional work ethic, dedicating 48 years of her life as a sales representative for the Avon Corporation. She continued working until nearly 90 years young, a testament to her passion and commitment. In addition to her career, Theresa was a devoted member of the Martinsville First United Methodist Church, where she assisted with Sunday School and served in various ministries. Her faith and dedication to her community were constants throughout her life.
A woman of varied interests, Theresa found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an active participant in the Ladies of the Lakes in the Martinsville community, where she cherished her monthly tea and sandwich gatherings with friends. A generous spirit, she also volunteered with the Red Cross blood drives and the Red Door Mission.
Theresa loved spending time sewing, crafting, reading and frequenting the local library. She had a passion for collecting bells and trinkets, and she even indulged in building with Legos, delighting in her creativity. One of her favorite pastimes was taking scenic drives through the countryside, where she enjoyed the beauty of her surroundings.
Theresa is survived by her loving children: Linda McCall, Jeane (Eddie) Agal, Kathy (Dave) Reuter, Richard Shannon, Wendy Straley-Wiggins and Becca (Tom) Dennis; 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren as well as her sister, Patricia Kempski. She is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in passing by her husband of 50 years, Richard Walter Shannon as well as her four siblings.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood.
Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Theresa will be laid to rest beside her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. 
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution, the family has suggested that those be offered to the Pink Ribbon Connection, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
