Obituary
Mrs. Shirley Anne Swarm, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, December 13, 2024. Born on May 29, 1934, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late Gus L. and Mary E. (Kehl) Ford.
Shirley attended Emmerich Manual High School and held various positions throughout her career, including roles at Liberty Loan and Lane Bryant Stores. She also served as a substitute mail carrier alongside her husband. A former member of Acton United Methodist Church, Shirley was a dedicated caregiver, tending to her husband during his battle with multiple sclerosis and caring for her mother through her struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
An avid gardener, Shirley found joy in the outdoors, especially in nurturing her flowers. She was also passionate about bowling and actively participated in leagues at All-Star Bowl.
Shirley is survived by her children, Sandra K. Pfeiffer and Robert J. (Cindy) Swarm; her grandchildren, Robert W. Roberson, Courtney A. (Andrew) Harmon, Christina M. (Taylor) Malott, Bradley C. Swarm, and Nathan L. (partner: Rachel Ratcliffe) Pfeiffer; and her great-grandchildren, Cole Roberson, Cami Harmon, Jack Pfeiffer, Lilly Pfeiffer, Shiloh Harmon, Maxwell Pfeiffer, Norah Malott, and Hallie Harmon. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in passing by her husband of 46 years, Robert E. Swarm, who passed away in 2003, and her two brothers, Kenneth L. Ford and Leonard L. Ford.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home. Shirley will be entombed beside her husband at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
