Obituary
Robert “Bob” Thomas was born in Portland, Indiana, June 14, 1944 to the late John and Sculey (Butcher) Thomas. He ran cross country while attending Portland High School and graduated in 1962. He was also a member of the 1960 Portland Rockets I.B.F. League Championship Team.
Bob graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business from Indiana Central University in the early 1970's and graduated from the University of Indianapolis with an MBA in the late 1980's. He married his first wife, Patricia (Patty) on January 4, 1974 and had three sons, Bret, Kevin and Kyle. They were married for 33 years prior to her passing.
Bob retired from Allison Transmission in Speedway, Indiana in 1993; and continued to work with Primerica for several years. He proudly served 24 years in the Indiana Air National Guard achieving the rank of Captain. He was a published author of a book (with plans to continue the series), past president of the Indy Mopar Club, Scoutmaster and an avid fisherman.
Bob married his current wife, Huang Lianxiang (Lucy) in 2011; she survives. He is also survived by his sons Bret of Monrovia, IN, Kevin (Jenn) of Fort Wayne, IN and Kyle of Monrovia, IN; grandsons Logan, Luke, and Lincoln; brother John “Jackhammer” (Laura) of Markle, IN, sister Elizabeth Bryan of Kokomo, IN and Lucy's son, Han Ming Mai of China.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife Patty in 2007; brother Garold and sister Patricia Sherrill, both in 2015.
Funeral Services for Bob are December 6th, 2024 at 6:00 pm with visitation starting at 3:00 pm until the hour of service at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. A contingent of the United States Air National Guard and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Military Honor Guard will confer military honors at 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Private family burial will take place at a later date at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
