Obituary
Robert Charles Champion, Greenwood, IN, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023. He was 83 years old. Robert was born in Akron, Ohio in 1940. He graduated from high school and married his wife, Maria (Dollahan) Champion, in 1983 and they shared 40 years of marriage together. Robert answered the call of this nation by enlisting into the United States Army during the time of the Vietnam war. He earned a Captain’s rank and became decorated with multiple medals and awards during his service. After Robert’s period of faithful service, he was honorably discharged.
Robert worked as a cabinet maker for General Fabricators for 30 years. Robert was a lifelong member of the christian baptist faith. He was also a member of the American Legion and enjoyed visiting the legion with his wife in his younger years. Robert was a meticulous and organized man; he was amazing at assembling scaled ship models and puzzles. Robert enjoyed woodworking in his spare time and always looked forward to the holiday season. Thanksgiving was always his first favorite holiday, followed by Christmas; he experienced joy through his gift giving. Robert was a family oriented man who will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.
Robert is survived by his wife, Maria Champion; his children, Tracy (Bill) Wilson and Robert (Gina) Champion Jr.; his 4 grandchildren; his multiple great grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; his 2 sisters, Donna and Francis.
A visitation for Robert will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 1:30 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 2:30 pm.
