Retha Pauline Baker

Obituary

Retha P. Baker, Indianapolis, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2024. She was 86 years old. Retha was born in Somerset, KY to her parents Perill and Barbara Phelps. Retha married her husband, Elgin Baker, on December 5, 1953, and together they shared 62 years of marriage together until Elgin passed away in April of 2015.  
Retha grew up in a family as one of twelve children. She travelled with her husband and son’s gospel band, the Baker Family. Retha was a talented singer and always proudly displayed her family’s album. Retha was a homemaker for her family. She was a master cook and baker; she had many beloved dishes including her delicious pies. Retha was a member of the Church of God during her life with her husband for many years. Retha enjoyed shopping for anything, anytime. She also loved celebrating and decorating for the holidays; Retha, usually, would set up one fun and one fancy Christmas tree. She will be remembered as a glamourous, personable, loving woman. She put her family at the center of her life and always looked to find the fun in everything. Retha will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind. 
Retha is survived by her children, Scotty E. (Becky) Baker and Rodney J. (Michelle) Baker; her grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Buckner, Adam Baker, Adrianne (Ryan) Masters, Lindsey (Joseph) Hercamp, Trevor (Kalen) Baker, Ethan Baker, and Elise Baker; her great grandchildren, Brittany (Jessica) Winterrowd, Brady Buckner, Bryson Cooper, Madison Masters, Delaney Masters, Tucker Hercamp, Lucy Hercamp, Jeremy Hercamp, Aubrey Hercamp, Audrey Baker, Avalyn Baker, Henley Baker, and Lyla Baker;  
Retha is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elgin J. Baker; her children, Jeffrey D.(Julia) Baker and Rickey A.(Deborah) Baker. 
A visitation for Retha will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The funeral service will be on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 1:30 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 2:30 pm.
