Nicholas Charles Steinhardt

Obituary

Mr. Nicholas Charles ‘Nick’ Steinhardt, Indianapolis, passed away on the early afternoon of Wednesday, November 23, 2022. He was 85. Nick was born November 6, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a son of the late Nicholas Charles and Evelyn A. (Miller) Steinhardt, Sr.
Nick attended Southport High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1955. He went on to Purdue University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering in 1960. After his graduation from Purdue, he began a 40 year long career with Indianapolis Power and Light, retiring in 1999 as Manager of System Operations. He also honorably served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves.
Nick was a member of American Legion Post 252 in Greenwood and at one time served as the clerk/treasurer of the Town of Homecroft in southern Marion County. He enjoyed his computer, Purdue Boilermaker sports as well as spending time in St. Petersburg, Florida. Nick loved his family and always supported and was an ’avid spectator’ of his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Nick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elaine Steinhardt; his children, Kim (Mike) Schaler and Bill Steinhardt; his grandchildren, Bradley Schaler, Brittany Schaler and Brian Schaler.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his brother, Terrell Steinhardt.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood and a private family burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. There will be no public funeral services.
