Obituary

Nellie E. Witmer, 100, of Bellefonte, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024. She was born June 11, 1924 in Houserville, PA to the late Russell and Roxie (Tressler) Stover.

Nellie married John W. Witmer on June 5, 1943. The union was blessed with four children; they remained together until his passing in 2002.

Nellie enjoyed puzzles, bird watching, sewing, knitting, camping, word searches, spending time with family and was a gifted seamstress. She also worked at the local farmer’s market.

Along with her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, John W., of 58 years; brothers, Eugene Stover and Elwood Stover; sisters, Rosella Day and Bella Gummo and grandchildren, John Witmer and Brian Witmer. She is survived by her children, Oscar Witmer (Brenda) of State College, PA, Bill Witmer of Penns Valley, Russ Witmer (Betsy) of Penns Valley, PA and Michele Witmer Haines (Alex) of Bellefonte, PA; sister, Helen Poorman of State College, PA; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 from 10:00am – 11:00am with a funeral service immediately following at 11:00am at the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. Interment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Nellie’s honor to Centre Care Nursing Home, 250 Persia Rd., Bellefonte, PA 16823
