Obituary

Our beloved Nancy J Cook, 82, of Indianapolis, Indiana surrounded by her loving children, passed away September 26, 2022, after a second courageous battle with cancer. Born in Brownsburg, Indiana, 1939, Nancy was the daughter of Charles Kephart and Doris (Hyten) Kephart Holt and stepdaughter of Harlan Holt.

She is sister to Tom Kephart and Frank Holt. Nancy attended Ben Davis High School.  On June 30th, 1955, she married the love of her life, Bernard Cook, Sr in Indianapolis, Indiana. She soon became an amazing mother to her four children, Bernard Cook, Jr (Rhonda), Robin Mathis (Ernie), Mark Cook (Gloria), Curtis Cook (Jody) and her special bonus child Daniel Alhbrand, Sr (Sherri). Her absolute love in life was spoiling her eight grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Nancy was a buyer for William H. Block (1969-1988), then a consultant for Bali- Haneswear in 1988, retiring in 2012. After retiring Nancy enjoyed time planting flowers, cooking, baking, attending craft fairs, a yearly attendant of the Indiana State Fair and Covered Bridge Festival, other festivals and loved anything that required her family to gather. During the 1950s up until Bernie’s death in 2003,

Nancy spent many summers, weekends, and vacation time at Dietz Lake in Center Pointe, Indiana. Even on vacation Nancy spent her time cooking and baking for family and friends. Nancy learned her kitchen talents from her mother and grandmother, in which she carried on their recipes and traditions up until the very end. Bernie and Nancy were best known for their annual Hog Roast that brought in over 200 people from the resort. Nancy’s door was open to everyone. She has played the role of mother and grandmother to many young souls. Nancy had the most generous, caring heart. She was a donor to over 30 charity organizations. Although our worlds seem empty with this tremendous loss, we will always carry a part of Nancy in our hearts.
