Obituary

Marlan B. Harris, age 96, of Parker City, Indiana passed peacefully in his sleep, November 23, 2024, while visiting his daughter Nicki in Biloxi, MS.

Marlan was born July 6, 1928, to Milton and Marie Harris, the seventh of eight children. He grew up in Delaware and Henry counties and graduated from Muncie Central High School. After high school, he went to trade school, joined the National Guard, and began building houses.

On April 30, 1950, Marlan married Mary Esther Cline. Marlan and Mary Esther enjoyed sixty-three wonderful years of marriage until her passing in February 2014. He is survived by their four children Nicki Jackson (Spencer deceased), Jerry Harris (partner - Brenda), Randy Harris (Barbara), and Gay Sparks (Ken); 15 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law Debra McGinnis. After Mary Esther passed, Marlan married Martha Harrison, who passed away in August 2020.

After Marlan retired from Warner Gear in 1981, he and Mary Esther joined their two sons Jerry and Randy at McCarty Constructions where they supervised the construction of restaurants across the nation. They worked for David McCarty for over ten years. They also worked for their son Jerry at Custom Installers and trained two of their grandsons, Chad and Brandon, in the trade.

In 1994, together with Mary Esther, Marlan bought and remodeled a fish camp on the river in Biloxi, MS. Marlan then bought a houseboat in Indiana. With their high school friends, Jack and Pat Rolands, sailed it down the Ohio and Tim Tom Rivers to Mississippi.

Over the course of his life, Marlan attended Main Street Methodist, Williamsburg Methodist, New Burlington Church, and Harris Chapel.

Marlan loved following Wapahani Sports, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Indiana Pacers.

Marlan's most enjoyable times were spent alongside the love of his life Mary Esther, visiting their children and grandchildren across the country, and helping them remodel their homes, or build new ones.

A visitation will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, 10:00AM at Garden View Funeral Home, Muncie, Indiana, with a funeral service at 11:30 AM.  Burial will follow at Gardens of Memories, Muncie, Indiana.
