Lester Perry Lucas

Obituary

Lester Lucas, age 89, of Bellefonte, passed away on September 6, 2023. Born October 11, 1933, in Julian, PA, he was the son of the late Lloyd S. and Florence Lucas. His dear sisters Evangeline and Celia Jessop preceded him in death. 

On August 26, 1956, Lester married Betty “Jane” Lucas. They shared over sixty-six years together until Jane passing earlier this year. Lester and Jane. After living in Lock Haven and Bellefonte, they spent many years living in Confer’s Development in Milesburg. Lester and Jane raised three boys whom they loved very much. 

Lester served in the military from November 4, 1953, until November 3, 1955. He told many stories of his days as a MP while serving at Camp Chaffee in Arkansas. 

Lester worked as a Tool and Die Draftsman at Cerro Metals and retired after 37 years. After retirement, Lester took up music. He played bass guitar with the Parlor Pickers. They played bluegrass and old-time mountain music. He really enjoyed making music and hanging out with the band. His famous white hat could be seen anytime he was out and about.

Lester was a longtime member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bellefonte, PA.

Lester is survived by his three sons, Perry Lucas and his wife Joyce who reside in Williamsburg, VA, Larry Lucas and his wife Amy who reside in Runville, PA and Rich Lucas and his wife Brenda who reside in State College, PA. Lester was blessed with 6 grandchildren Jacob Lucas, Silas Lucas (Casey), Ethan Lucas (Brianna), Marlena Hicks (Will), Julia Lucas (Tom Stroemel), and Max Lucas. Lester also has two great grandchildren, Parker Lucas and Will Hicks V. Lester also loved his nephew Bob Jessop (Gerenda) and his niece Linda Frank (Robert). 

Friends will be received from 2:00PM - 3:00PM on Sunday, September 10, 2023, with a funeral service immediately following at 3:00PM at the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home 1034 Benner Pike State College, PA 16801, the Pastor Stephen Hicks will be officiating. Lester will be laid to rest at the Centre County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lester’s memory may be made to Eagle Valley Personal Care’s Memorial Park Fund, 500 Front Street, Milesburg, PA 16853. An online guestbook may be signed, and condolences left for the family at www.hakygeorgianafh.com
