Obituary
Mr. Kevin Guy Mitchell, 67, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14, 2024. Born on August 13, 1957, in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Donald James and Betty Jean (Herd) Mitchell.
Kevin was a proud graduate of Arsenal Technical High School, class of 1975. Over the years, he dedicated his life to his work and family. For the past 12 years, Kevin was a familiar and friendly face at Walmart in Beech Grove, where he worked as a cashier, known for his witty humor and kind demeanor.
A man of varied interests, Kevin found joy in the little things that made life rich. He was passionate about animals, golf, relished immersing himself in the thrilling worlds of Stephen King novels, and was a devoted fan of the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana University, Notre Dame, and the Indiana Pacers. He also loved the excitement of the Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR races. Whether playing board games or trivia with loved ones or excelling at bowling—rolling impressive near-perfect games of 299 and 298—Kevin’s love for life was evident.
Above all, Kevin was devoted to his family. He cherished every moment spent with his wife, Rita Lynn Mitchell, to whom he was married for nearly 45 years. Together, they built a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. His children, Scott (Crystal) Mitchell, Brian (Samantha) Mitchell and Becky Mitchell were his pride and joy, as were his grandchildren: Sha Denny, John (Samantha) Mitchell, Kaitlyn Mitchell, Madeleine Mitchell and Henry Mitchell. He enjoyed having a great-grandson, Logan.
Kevin also leaves behind his brothers, Steve Mitchell and Craig (Jenny) Mitchell, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is preceded in passing by his siblings, Donald Mitchell and Roger (Virginia) Mitchell.
Funeral services honoring Kevin’s life will take place on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 6:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, Indiana. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
