Obituary
Kenneth E. "Ken" Helton, 85 of Franklin passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024. He was born to the late Gerald Helton & Athena.
Ken and his wife Joanne lived in Florida for 30 years where Ken called and taught square dancing and they both taught couples dancing. Ken did a lot of bicycling and participated in several marathons. He belonged to a club of Mazda convertible owners and they met to take short trips to enjoy the people and sunny Florida. Also, he was a member of a Christian motorcycle group that met for breakfast and they read scripture and prayed, then took short rides. He loved being outside doing most anything.
Ken was baptized at Eagledale Baptist Church. He was a Sunday School Superintendent for the University Heights Baptist Church. After moving back to Indiana they attended New Life Baptist Church in Franklin. Ken loved the Lord, read and believed the word of the Lord.
Ken leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Joanne, of 35 years. Also, three children: Scott Helton, Jeff Helton (Michelle), Jill Bowlin (Allen) his grandchildren Tyler Scott Helton and Kenneth Charles Helton and step grandchildren Todd and Savannah Grove, Caden and Cassidy Bowlin. He is preceded in death by both parents, former wife Judith Ann Whitaker, by both grandparents Thomas and Beulah Helton, and a sister Carol Helton.
Per Ken's request there will be no services.
Ken Helton was a man of impeccable character. When he became a believer in Jesus Christ in 1961 he went all in and was completely surrendered to God. When asked why he had quit smoking and why his life had changed so much he said, “I didn’t want to do anything that would malign the name of Christ.”
I grew up in his home and have been close with him for 63 years and have never heard a profane word come out of his mouth. He was a duty full provider and protector of his family. Most would say he was a soft-spoken man with a pleasant disposition. Slow to anger and measured in his response to almost any difficult situation.
I consider it a great privilege to be his son. And now he will enjoy his great reward in paradise in the presence of the Savior he loved.
