Obituary

Our Dad: A Life of Service Joseph Jeffery Cothran (JoJo), age 76, of Glencoe, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, September 14th at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Joe was born in 1948 in Gadsden, AL and was the son of Marion N. Sr. and Josie Cothran.  Joe worked for CSX Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 2007. He was a beloved softball coach for 10 years, a Sunday School teacher for 50+ years,  the National Softball Association State Director for 10 years and Regional Director for 4 years. Joe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He enjoyed watching Braves baseball, the Golden State Warriors, Andy Griffith, and old westerns. He was also considered to be quite the card shark amongst his peers. One of his favorite pastimes was to visit the elderly and those in need. The group was started by Joe over a decade ago and the ministry has grown over the years with many dedicated men that will continue Joe’s mission so that his spirit will live on for future generations. Joe, along with his son Ryan and brother Bert, was also an avid baseball card collector, mostly focusing on his favorite team. He was preceded in death by his parents Josie and Marion and brother M.N. and Byron “Cowboy” Cothran. Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beth Cothran, Jeffery and Deidra Cothran, Ashley and Jake Underwood, Ryan and Anna Cothran, his Grandsons Jesse, Luke, and Rocco, and granddaughters Ansley, Ellis, Murphy, and Finn. We will receive friends and family for a visitation from 12:00-2:00 at North Glencoe Baptist Church, immediately followed by celebration of Joe’s love-filled life. Pallbearers will be nephews of the Cothran and Stone families. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Grigsby, Tommy Stanley, Ken Lankford, ,David Holmes and his Sunday School Class.
