Obituary
John Hargrove, affectionately known as Johnny, of Valrico,
Florida, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at the age of 86, after a
courageous year-long battle with dementia and brain cancer. Johnny was born on
July 9, 1938, in Williamson County, Tennessee, to Eve Lena Hargrove and John
Wallace Hargrove. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his sisters Mary
Lockwood, Wanda Jackman and Maybelle Reed, and his brother James Tidwell.
Johnny lived a life marked by simplicity, hard work, and a
deep love for the outdoors. He was known for his dedication as a maintenance
worker for Hillsborough County and his skillful work as a butcher. His passions
extended beyond his career; he was an accomplished tournament bass fisherman,
an avid hunter, and a devoted outdoorsman. His love for Tennessee was evident
in his lifelong support for the Volunteers, and he often spoke of the pride he
felt for his home state.
Johnny is survived by his faithful companion, Martha Lugo,
who provided him with unwavering love, dedication, and care, particularly
during his final years. His memory will be cherished by his daughter, Renee
Stone; his son, Steve Hargrove; his grandson, Mitchell Yount; and his
granddaughter, Nicole Yount.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Martha for
her profound support and the tender care she offered Johnny throughout their
years together. Her devotion was a source of comfort and strength.
A service to honor Johnny’s life will be held at Serenity
Meadows Funeral Home, located at 6919 Providence Rd, Riverview, FL, on August
20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial. All who knew Johnny are invited to
join in celebrating his life and legacy.
May Johnny rest in peace, surrounded by the tranquility of
the great outdoors he loved so dearly.
