Jean A Cunningham

June 19th, 1941 - February 10th, 2023

Obituary

Jean Ann (Howard) Cunningham passed away peacefully at home Friday, February 10, 2023.  

Jean was born in Portland, Indiana on June 19, 1941 to Robert and Mildred Howard. Muncie became her home when the family moved here in 1946.  Jeanne graduated from Burris High School in 1960.  She married her high school sweetheart, Glen Cunningham, and together they raised three rambunctious boys.  Jean was quite proud of being a boy mom.  

Jean was active in various community groups and held several offices in the Kappa Chapter of Gamma Nu sorority.  She worked as a teacher’s aide at South View Elementary and Washington Carver Elementary. In 1986 Jean earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Ball State University.  She participated in several senior fitness programs, including water aerobics, at Ball State and YMCA. She was an amazing cook, constantly exploring new recipes. She enjoyed container gardening and attracting a great diversity of birds to her numerous feeders.  

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Glen Cunningham; sons: Jeff Cunningham, John (Ann) Cunningham, Steve (Melissa) Cunningham;  grandchildren: Danielle (John) Giannerini, Natalie Cunningham, Robert “Bobby” (Breanna) Cunningham, Morgan Cunningham, JaMarc Neely, Alex (Alexa) Moore, William Moore; great-grandchildren: Kathryn Neely, Raistlin Neely, Bexon Creel, Margot Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mildred Howard; two sisters, Carolyn Culp and Janet Morgan; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Cunningham.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, February 26, 1- 3:30 pm at Mansfield Events Building (2801 S Eaton Ave, Muncie).

Memorial contributions in support of the Red-Tail Nature Preserve can be made to Red-Tail Land Conservancy, 125 E. Charles St. Suite 200, PO Box 8, Muncie IN 47308.
