James Edmundson

Obituary

James Kilgore Edmundson, Jr., a long-time resident of Alexandria, VA, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the age of 84. His wife, Ellen Mandell Edmundson, was at his side.
Jim was born in Beckley, WV on December 24, 1938, to the late James Kilgore and Charlotte Fadeley Edmundson. Jim graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1956 before attending West Virginia University, where he received his undergraduate and law degrees. Like his father, Jim was an active member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

Jim worked for the Federal Communications Commission and several law firms in Washington, DC. His practice focused primarily on assisting radio and television operators obtain broadcast licenses from the FCC. Jim and a business partner also constructed and operated their own radio station in Warrenton, VA for several years.
Jim was an avid reader and an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church and Fairfax Presbyterian Church. For many years, he taught Bible study classes. He was passionate about sports, particularly playing tennis and watching Mountaineer football, the Redskins and the Orioles.
Jim loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his children and their spouses, daughter Jenny and Lt. Gen. Sam Mundy (Tampa), son Kevin and Debbie Edmundson (Austin), daughter Stephanie and Patrick Page (Fairfax), and daughter Chrissie and Erik Ott (Myrtle Beach). Jim is also survived by several grandchildren and one great grandchild whom he adored: Laura Mundy Kellerman (Patrick), Krista Mundy Bowles (Will), Kal Edmundson, Bo Edmundson, Hayden Page, Abby Page, Mathi Ott, Christian Ott and Camden Elizabeth Kellerman. His family will miss his quick wit and outsized personality.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister Carolyn “Bimmie” Edmundson.
A gravesite memorial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 1925 Harper Road, Beckley, WV 25801 on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donation be made to the Beckley Presbyterian Church (Beckley, WV) or the Fairfax Presbyterian Church (Fairfax, VA).
