Born on October 19, 1939, in Miami, Florida, to George
Washington Bowles and Rebecca Jane Long. George loved his family and traveled a
great deal in his lifetime. He graduated from Brownsville (Texas) Highschool in
1957, at the age of 17 and went on to proudly serve our great nation for 26
years in the US Air Force and another 16 years in the Civil Service. His
travels took him to many different destinations including North Carolina,
Texas, Korea, Wyoming, California, Greenland, Australia, Missouri, Vietnam,
England, South Carolina, Germany, Illinois, and Alabama.
George had many hobbies including talking about his career
in the military, watching baseball, reading, and walking. While living in
Ramstein, Germany, George became a lover of volksmarching. So much so that he
was instrumental in starting a walking club at both Patrick AFB, FL and Scott
AFB, IL. He loved to walk the countryside and many good times were had with his
wife and children in tow! George was a lifetime member of the VFW and as a
member of the Aberdeen Veterans group in Ormond Beach, where he volunteered at
nursing homes in the Ormond Beach/Daytona Beach area. He was also a member of
the Breard Chapter of the Sonds of the American Revolution.
George was a believer in our heavenly Father and was, along
with his wife Beverly, members of the Lighthouse – Christ Presbyterian Church
in Ormond Beach.
George possessed the qualities of a great father: love,
compassion, understanding, and forgiveness. He will be greatly missed and
leaves behind a loving family: his wife of 44 years, Beverly; ex-wife Ruth
Thompson; son George “Al” Bowles (Sue); daughter Cathy (Brian) Jaskiewicz;
daughter Christine (Keith) Hilijus; bonus son Michael (Betty) Maksudian; bonus
son Steven (Holly) Maksudian; brother David; grandchildren Brian Jr. (Sara),
