Obituary
Frances M. Moyer, 95 of Lemont Furnace passed from this life Sunday December 24, 2023. Fran was born May 9, 1928 in Uniontown, PA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Furin and Marie Lawrence. Frances graduated from St. John’s High School in 1946. After graduating, Mom took the Civil Service Examination and scored very well. She was then hired at the Office of Public Assistance in Uniontown as a secretary and was employed there for four years prior to getting married. Her good friend Mr. Tom Yalich had also known our father and set up a blind date for Mom and Dad. However, As it happened, their “blind” date was not altogether “blind”, in that Fran had previously spotted our father at Shady Grove Pool while he was working there as a lifeguard. Frances made a wonderful homelife for her family. She loved working in the yard and in Dad’s garden. She loved to cook and pass on recipes of Hungarian dishes to her children. She talked with her beloved sister, Thelma, daily regarding recipes that only the two of them knew about. Frances had a true fondness for singing and playing her piano, she loved singing in the church choir. She also gave her time as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader when her daughters were in grade school. Fran had a genuine fondness for reuniting relatives. She planned and carried out many family reunions through the 1970’s and 80’s She had a determination within her to have her own family meet and enjoy more distant relatives that otherwise would not have been known to her kids. Frances had a deep love and concern for all animals. She loved and nurtured every animal that her children tried to save or adopt. Mom had much fun, and found it most challenging to ride horses with her family. Fran was truly multifaceted, she could bake pies in the morning, and in the afternoons she would help out in the fields when it came time to cut and bale the hay. When her kids became older, she worked as a secretary in the laboratory at Uniontown Hospital. There she made many new friends along with her daughter Kim. Mom enjoyed the new experience very much. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Furin and Marie Lawrence, her cherished husband of 63 years William E. “Bud” Moyer, her daughter Dr. Kimberly Moyer Karschner, her sister Thelma Grote and her brother Max Furin.
