Douglas (Doug) E.
Gruber, 75, of Fishers,
Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at his home.
He was born on April 16, 1947 to Sam and Frances (Lunsford) Gruber in Dayton,
Ohio.
Doug proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He worked for SYSCO
Food Service and retired after 35 years. Doug married Janie Huggins on
September 6, 1969. He was a Mason, earning a membership to the Scottish Rite,
and a 22-year member of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church. Doug was born and
raised in Dayton, Ohio, and was an active member of the community of Vandalia,
Ohio for over 30 years. He and Janie moved to Fishers, Indiana, 22 years ago.
Doug could often be seen on nice days driving his John Deere lawnmower.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie Gruber; son, Scott (Nora) Gruber;
daughter, Jodi (Brad) Phillips; grandchildren, Nate Gruber, Seth Gruber;
step-grandchildren, Maija, Quinn, and Laine Phillips; step-great-grandchild,
Kehton Phillips; brother, Sam "Sonny" Gruber; sisters, Brenda (Jim)
Hawkey and Joyce (Mike) Ramby; as well as several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sister-in-law,
Mary Gruber; and his nephew, Jeff Gruber.
Indiana visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, January 6, 2023
at Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary, 12010 Allisonville Road, in Fishers,
Indiana.
Ohio viewing will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 11:30 am to 1:00
pm, with Funeral Services at 1:00 pm, at Zerkle Funeral Home, 11900 N. Dixie
Drive, in Tipp City, Ohio.
Burial will follow at Forest Hills
Memorial Gardens in Tipp City, Ohio.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Christ the
Savior Lutheran Church, 10500 E 126th Street, in Fishers, Indiana. Time to be
posted soon.
