Dick Ajalat

Obituary

Dr. Dick Saba Ajalat, 97, of Ormond Beach, Florida, passed away on October 17th, 2024. He was born of immigrants in Brooklyn, New York on September 25th, 1927. Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Sybil Ajalat. He is survived by his children, Stephen and Mary Nell Ajalat of DeLand, Florida. Dick is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. 

During World World II, Dick enlisted the U.S. Naval Service-Coast Guard. Post-war he obtained his doctorate in pharmacy at Columbia University, and his doctorate in dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia. Dick and his wife, Sybil, moved to Alexandria, Virginia where he practiced dentistry for 37 years until his retirement. After retiring form dentistry, Dick and Sybil moved to Ormond Beach, Florida to be closer to their disabled children. They had much love for their children and the Duvall home. Their faith clearly showed and was the light of their life. Dick and Sybil felt the call into the ministry and were instrumental in the development of the Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Ormond Beach, Florida. For many years, Dick has been an active member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Daytona Beach, Florida. Dick served on the VIP board. He was awarded the distinguished honor of the Arch Angel Michael award in Greek Orthodox Metropollos of Atlanta. Many friendships formed from St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church that were an enduring part of his life. After retiring from dentistry, Dick began to pursue his creative passions in painting. Dick was honored to have received the best painting by the Daytona Art League. 

Dick had a good sense of humor, and a witty personality. He enjoyed dancing, painting and poetry. He especially enjoyed going to the movies, plays, and other local events with his friends. His friends and family will remember his compassion and acceptance for all people in all walks of life. His friends will remember his funny banter and witty sense of humor. Those who knew Dick well will dearly miss him. 

Dick and his family have been most appreciative of the generous services of his dedicated caregivers who blessed his life with their presence. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 19th, 2024 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox, 129 N Halifax Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32118. Following the service, Dick will be buried with Sybil at Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Pallbearers are Chandler D. Vaught and Grant H. Vaught. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Dick's name to the Duvall Home and Wounded Warriors.
