Obituary
Debra Elaine “Debbie” Durham, age 61, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, December 28, 2024. Born on December 9, 1963, in Indianapolis, she was the beloved daughter of Carolyn Vene (Hughes) Durham, who survives her, and the late William Robert Durham.
A proud graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, Debbie devoted 20 years of her professional life to the Indianapolis Public Schools as a member of the janitorial services team, retiring with a legacy of dedication and hard work.
Debbie lived her life with a love for the simple joys of nature and family. She found happiness outdoors—fishing, camping, or simply sitting on her front porch soaking in the world around her. She enjoyed exploring countryside roads, marveling at sunsets, and discovering shapes in the clouds. Her sense of adventure extended to her love of racetracks, where she delighted in watching her family compete.
An avid movie fan, Debbie especially adored ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and classic Rankin/Bass Christmas specials. She had a passion for collecting whimsical gnomes and cherished peaceful walks in old cemeteries. Her Pit-mix, Harley, was a loyal and beloved companion who brought her immeasurable joy.
Debbie is survived by her devoted mother, Carolyn; her siblings: Phil and Nancy Durham, Rhonda and Bob Stubbs, Rick and Tammy Durham, and Brenda Patterson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and great-greatnieces who were a bright light in her life.
She was preceded in death by her father, William.
Funeral services to honor Debbie’s life will be held on Friday, January 3, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, with Rev. Andrew Scanlon-Holmes officiating. She will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Friends and family are invited to gather at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
