Obituary
Carolyn Kay Spivey, Greenwood, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family. She was 82 years old.
Carolyn was born in Bedford, Indiana in 1942. She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1960.
Carolyn married her husband Charles “Chuck” Norman Spivey on August 10, 1962, and they shared 59 years of marriage together until Chuck passed away in 2022.
Carolyn and Chuck were longtime residents of Bowling Green, Kentucky, where they owned and operated Mr. D’s Pizza in Bowling Green, Kentucky for seventeen years. They were, later, longtime residents of Burkesville, Kentucky where they managed a lake resort on Dale Hollow Lake for eighteen years. To stay busy, Chuck and Carolyn then worked as an Expeditor Team (delivery driving) for twelve years. Finally, Carolyn started working in 2013 at Westbury Antique Mall and retired in 2022 after 9 years of service.
Carolyn enjoyed being an associate member of the American Legion; her father and grandfather served in the military. Carolyn attended her local senior center regularly and always enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Carolyn kept loving relationships with her closest friends from early childhood, high school, and her time at Dale Hollow. There was nothing she cherished more than the large family vacations that she would spearhead the planning of. She will be dearly missed for her strength and family-oriented nature by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her brother Ronald Jay Kern (Brenda), her daughter Camela Spivey (Sutphin), her sons Jeffrey Spivey (Renee), David Spivey (Lindsey), Kurt (Deanna) and all her loving grandchildren: Makayla, Jordan, Zachary, Alicia, Shane, Kameron, Kelsey, Nathan, Anna, Maddie, Landon, David Jr., Kenna and her five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Chuck (2022), parents Frank and Mary (Boone) Kern, and her brother Donnie Ray Kern.
The information regarding her celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
