Bacom Jr. (wife Joanne, daughter Felecia); daughter Susan Arline, husband Carl, son Matthew, and daughter Gina Gist; and her great granddaughters, Sariyah Lynn Gist-Williams, Tamia Ginelle Williams, and Alaiyah Shanel Williams; her brother John Malarney (Tallahassee) and sister Pattie Malarney (Tallahassee).
Additional survivors include her beloved Trinity Lutheran Church cantor, Brian Larson, the choir and bell choir friends; her former husband and cherished friend Fred Carter and family. Nephews Jeff Millaire, Dean and Mario Gargiulo and niece Jennifer Cannon and their families.
Carolyn was a life-long resident of the Daytona Beach area. Lyn graduated from Mainland High School in the early 60’s. Steven Robert Bacom was her first born in 1963 and her daughter Susan was born in 1966. While raising her two children as a single parent, she completed her nursing degree from DBCC. After a brief nursing career, she decided to pursue a teaching career with the encouragement of her mom, who was a school principal in Volusia County. Lyn joined her sisters JoAnne (UCF) and Pattie (FSU) in the teaching profession by graduating with a BS in Education in 1975. She finished her Master’s degree in Reading Education while teaching.
Lyn dedicated her career to the love of teaching countless young children. She was a 1st and 2nd grade teacher at Seville and Sugar Mill Schools ( Volusia County School System) for 37 years. After her retirement in 2012, she continued to devote her time with Bel Canto, the Church Choir and provided after school care and slumber parties for her great grandchildren. “Mimi “ loved caring for her great grandchildren and spending time with her family.
Carolyn was a talented musician playing clarinet, flute and piano from an early age. Her Mainland High School band was one of the first Daytona Beach marching bands to perform in the Macy’s Day Parade. She also sang with Bel Canto Singers of Daytona for many years. She was honored to be able to travel to Austria and Wales in the early 90’s with this prestigious singing group. Lyn cherished her Trinity Lutheran Church of NSB friends, and especially those she sang with in the choir, played choir bells with and most recently participated in zoom bible study. Lyn was saddened by the recent passing of her dear friend and musical and spiritual mentor Gretchen Marz.
Lyn was an established seamstress and made clothes for herself, her siblings and her children in her young adult life. She loved to read, and enjoyed crossword puzzles to keep her brain active. She enjoyed watching just about every Hallmark movie ever made.
Lyn was an inspiration and mentor to all of her family with her grace, patience, generosity, musical talents and spirituality.
