Obituary
Alan J Safran died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 17
2024, in Apollo Beach Florida at the age of 70. Alan was born on October 10, 1954 in Haverhill, Massachusetts to Henry Safran
and Lena Dodier. Alan married Laurie (Proulx) Safran on Feb 12, 2000.
Alan has six children; daughter Michelle (deceased), Alan R (Katie) Safran,
Brad (Yolanda) Safran, Kym Safran, Ryan, McCullough, and Alicia Hattingh
(Divan), seven grandchildren; Dylan, Isabella, Lilyana, Lacey, Hazel, Ellie and
Charlotte. Alan was in the carnival business for many years, most notably with Billy
Burr’s Funorama Shows, Fiesta Shows and along with his wife Laurie owned
Lilybell’s Ice Cream. Alan was affectionately nicknamed “Carnival God” in
reverence to his ability for keeping the midway lights lit and the rides
spinning. Family was his greatest joy. The love for his beloved wife Laurie,
his children and grandchildren knew no bounds.
His gentle demeanor was a trademark of sorts. He was a man of utmost integrity,
a leader who led through example with a great reverence towards duty. He
was a diplomatic problem solver with a firm sense of fairness. His work ethic
was unmatched and without even realizing, he mentored so many through his
knowledge, skill, kindness and sincerity. He had an affinity for the grassroots
of our country, prompting the theme of “American Pride” while representing the
carnival industry during his term as President of the International Independent
Showmen’s Association in 2022-2023.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Michelle.
As per his wishes no memorial service will be held.
