William Wellingham

September 19th, 1942 - August 23rd, 2024

Obituary

William Paul Wellingham (Bill), beloved husband and father, age 81 of Hokes Bluff, passed away peacefully at home on Friday August 23, 2024.  Mr. Wellingham was a 1961 graduate of Gadsden High School and served as a Air Force policeman in the United States Air Force.   He then returned to Gadsden where he completed his career of 35 years at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company retiring in 2000. 
 
Bill married his sweetheart, Janice, in 1963 after which they would have 3 beautiful children; Debbie, Jill, and Paul.  He was a member of Bellevue Methodist Church where he raised his children in the faith.  He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing with the fellowship of his close friends as well as his son, Paul.  

He loved serving his community evidenced by his volunteer service at Gadsden Regional Hospital as well as delivering mobile meals to those in need among his many service activities.

During the fall season you could always find Bill watching Alabama football, old cowboy shows and keeping up with his grandkid’s sports activities.  Bill was a wonderful and proud of his father,. grandfather, and recently a new great grandfather. 
 
He is preceded in death by his parents Glen and Kathyrn Wellingham.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Janice Wellingham, sisters Susan Renfro and Glenda Keasler, children Debbie (Brack) Alford, Jill (Barry) Gardner, Paul (Caress) Wellingham II, grandchildren Madeline Alford, Brackston Alford, Will (Aubrey) Wellingham III, Haley Kate Wellingham, Conner Wellingham, great grandchild Landrey Wellingham and a numerous number of nieces and nephews. The family is thankful for the staff at Amedisys for caring for Bill and the family during his last days. Donations may be made to St Judes Foundation or memorials to your local church in his memory. A celebration of life will be held at 2500 Sims Drive on September 1st at 6 p.m. for family and friends. The family requests no flowers. Please make donation to St. Jude or your favorite church or charity.
